Driving a Western

Getting the chance to get behind the desk of a working Western Class 52 has always been a huge ambition and along with a mate, Jules, we went along to the Severn Valley Railway to do just that on one of their Footplate Driving Courses. You get to take turns driving the loco between Bewdley and the SVR's northern limit at Bridgnorth.

It was huge fun, helped along by the friendly and helpful guys at the SVR - thanks to you all for a great day!

D1013 Western Ranger was our booked loco, with the added bonus that we got to take a good look round D1062 Western Courier when we reached Bridgnorth.

If you are a Western fan then I can not recommend this experience enough, for further details go to the Severn Valley Railway site, here.
